Fullerton’s got a little bit of everything—college‑town energy, historic downtown, and a low‑key bar scene—and scattered through it all are some excellent burger spots.
These are the places locals keep bringing up when someone says, “I just want a really good burger tonight.”
1. Heroes Bar & Grill
Downtown Fullerton classic. Big portions, loud energy, and burgers that match the vibe.
Heroes’ burgers are hefty, juicy, and come stacked on soft, toasted buns that barely contain everything inside.
The classic cheeseburger is more than enough for most people, but regulars love the bacon‑cheddar build and any special with avocado and grilled onions. You’re getting a proper bar burger here—messy, rich, and absolutely needing a pile of napkins.
Fries or onion rings are almost a requirement, and the huge beer list makes it a natural “watch the game and crush a burger” spot.
2. Burger Parlor (Fullerton)
Burger Parlor helped kick off the “gourmet burger” wave in North OC, and it’s still one of the top names locals recommend.
Patties are griddled with a nice crust, juicy inside, and built on soft brioche buns with a chef’s touch.
The Original—with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and house sauce—is the baseline, but people rave about the Cali‑leaning combos with avocado, bacon, and spicy aioli, or the smoky/BBQ options with crispy onions. Sides like garlic fries and onion rings are excellent, and their shakes are worth saving room for.
3. Stubrik’s Steakhouse
Technically a steakhouse, but Fullerton folks know the burger here is no joke.
You’re getting a steakhouse‑style burger: thick, beefy, cooked properly to temp, with a real char from the grill. It typically comes with quality cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a solid bun that doesn’t fall apart halfway through.
If you’re the type who likes your burger a little more “knife and fork” and less “drive‑thru,” this is the place.
Grab it with a side of fries and a drink at the bar and it feels like a splurge without being over the top.
4. JP23 BBQ & Smokehouse
Known for barbecue and a big sports‑bar atmosphere, JP23 also puts out a very solid burger.
Think big, juicy patties with a bit of smoke and sear, topped with options like cheddar, bacon, fried onions, and house BBQ sauce.
Their BBQ burger with brisket or pulled pork piled on top is the move if you’re really hungry.
The buns are sturdy enough to handle all of it, and the sides—fries, tots, mac and cheese—are exactly what you want next to a big, saucy burger while you watch a game.
5. Denny’s (Harbor / late‑night college staple)
Not fancy, not “gourmet,” but ask long‑time Fullerton locals and CSUF students where many of their late‑night burgers came from, and Denny’s will absolutely be in the conversation.
Is it the best burger in town?
Probably not. But at 1 a.m. after a show downtown, that double cheeseburger with fries at the Harbor Boulevard Denny’s hits exactly right. It’s part nostalgia, part convenience, and part “this really does taste pretty great when you’re starving.”
